About Renewable Energy
Creating 160,000 kWh of clean energy annually with our own rooftop solar power generation.
At SANYU REC, we are accelerating our carbon-neutral initiatives by conducting solar power generation on the rooftops of our buildings. We have five self-generation facilities (A Building, First Mixing Plant, Sub-material Building, Production Building, Packaging Building) that use the generated electricity in-house, and one power-selling station where electricity is sold to Kansai Electric Power Company. In 2022, we expanded the solar power facilities at the First Mixing Plant and the Sub-material Building, and in 2023 at the Production and Packaging Buildings, generating approximately 160,000 kWh of electricity annually. This amount of energy is equivalent to powering an electric vehicle to circle the Earth about 30 times. We plan to utilize various clean energy sources in addition to solar power in the future.
All plants powered by renewable energy with the "Renewable Energy ECO Plan" and on-site solar power for RE100 compliance.
At SANYU REC, as part of our "responsibility to produce," we aspire to power all factory operations with renewable energy. While we are already engaged in solar power generation, covering all the power used in factories with our own generation is not feasible, and realistically, it is challenging to switch to other forms of renewable energy. Therefore, in 2022, we signed the "Renewable Energy ECO Plan" with Kansai Electric Power to supply power derived from renewable sources. The "Renewable Energy ECO Plan" also aligns with the Ministry of the Environment's RE100 initiative. In 2022, we managed to operate all factories with electricity from renewable sources. We intend to continue our business activities using renewable energy, combined with our own solar power generation.
Introducing renewable diesel in employee shuttle buses. Decarbonization effort aimed at reducing GHG emissions by 90%.
Since April 2023, the shuttle buses that operate between Takatsuki city center and SANYU REC headquarters, used for commuting employees, have been fueled by renewable diesel (RD). Compared to regular diesel, RD is colorless, less odorous, and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 90%. A significant advantage is that it can be used in existing vehicles without modification. RD is supplied by our sister company, Sanyu Energy Co., Ltd. This initiative is the first of its kind in Osaka Prefecture to use RD for public road travel. High expectations have been placed on this project since it began immediately after launching our SDGs project. We hope this initiative will spread carbon reduction awareness both internally and externally.
